Like the sunken ships that clot its seas and the rusting artillery that has long since cooled on its jungly hillsides, Micronesia has nearly fallen off the map of the American psyche. Once a vast U.S.-administered territory the size of Australia, the islands now sound foreign to American ears: Palau, Marianas, Marshalls and the Federated States of Micronesia.
